Best Practices

Best Practices are techniques that repeatedly produce the expected results in most organizations.

Project-oriented Best Practices

•  Select from the PMBOK Guide practices that suit your project

•  Measure success against a specific set of metrics for the project

•  Use a project collaboration system or create a project Web site

•  Interface with a corporate project-oriented costing system or create your own temporary version

Product-oriented Best Practices

•  Recruit skilled and experienced people

•  Provide a training program

•  Measure success against a specific set of metrics for the product

•  Evaluate risks between leading-edge and bleeding-edge technologies

•  Use a proven methodology and adapt it to the project (Waterfall, RUP, XP, CMMI)

•  Use Configuration Management for at least requirements and content

•  Favor reusable component architecture
